Gravelrings
Gravel grid system

Nestled within the rolling Cotswold landscape, Willow Wood Farm is a thoughtfully designed new-build family house commissioned by John Carter, CEO of Jewson. Delivered through a close collaboration between the client, Tyack Architects and Cranatt Construction, the project showcases exceptional stone craftsmanship, natural materials and a carefully considered gravel driveway, creating a property that feels both timeless and firmly rooted within its setting, with longevity at the heart of its design.
To complement this vision, the external surfaces were designed with the same focus on longevity and authenticity. Through timeless gravel driveway, a natural pale, warm flint-style angular gravel surface was selected to create an understated yet elegant arrival experience that grounds the property within the wider landscape. Offering a timeless aesthetic suited to a high-specification estate project, the driveway has been designed to remain as appropriate and enduring in years to come as it is today.
The arrival experience plays an important role in shaping first impressions of a property. At Willow Wood Farm, the driveway was designed to feel like a natural extension of the wider estate, helping to connect the home to its setting and reinforce the character of the development.
To achieve this, 345m² of driveway was installed as Phase 1 of the project using Gravelrings for gravel stabilisation, with Graveledge incorporated to provide clean, defined edging. The system provides the stability required for regular vehicle traffic while maintaining the appearance of a traditional loose gravel surface. The selected Yorkshire Cream gravel further enhances this effect, offering a warm, light natural tone that sits comfortably within the Cotswold stone palette.
The result is a driveway that delivers the visual appeal of natural gravel without compromising on long-term performance.
“I’m really, really pleased with how the driveway has turned out. It looks great and feels great. Cranatt spoke very highly of Beauxfort during the project, describing them as helpful and easy to work with, and my experience reflects that too.” – John Carter, Willow Wood Farm
Having worked with Beauxfort products for many years through the merchant sector, homeowner John Carter was already familiar with the reputation and performance of Gravelrings.
The product was specified by name for the project, reflecting confidence in its ability to deliver both the quality finish and durability required for a premium residential development.
Having used a range of gravel stabilisation systems on previous projects, Cranatt Construction identified Gravelrings as the most robust solution for the scheme, capable of delivering the quality finish and long-term performance expected of a high-specification residential project while remaining invisible once installed.
By stabilising the gravel beneath the surface, the system helps maintain a consistent finish while preserving the natural appearance that was central to the overall design vision.
For Willow Wood Farm, the appeal of a gravel driveway extended beyond its appearance. While many driveway surfaces can show their age over time, a Gravelrings surface retains its natural character.
By combining naturally hard-wearing quartz that doesn’t crush with Gravelrings, the project delivers a driveway that feels firm and stable underfoot and under vehicle traffic, while maintaining the authentic appearance of loose gravel. Unlike traditional loose gravel, the surface remains stable in daily use, while feeling considerably more stable in use.
For John Carter, investing in Gravelrings was about more than creating an elegant arrival. It was about choosing a driveway that would continue to look and perform as intended for years to come, without the ongoing upkeep often associated with traditional gravel surfaces. The result is a natural, enduring surface that complements the property today and is designed to remain a lasting part of the estate well into the future.
While the wider estate remains a work in progress, the first phase of the driveway has already helped establish the property’s arrival experience and connect the new farmhouse to its surroundings.
With landscaping works ongoing, plans are already in place to extend the gravel driveway in future phases, further enhancing the arrival experience and surrounding grounds.
Willow Wood Farm demonstrates how timeless gravel driveway design, supported by a carefully specified gravel stabilisation system, can contribute to the success of a high-end estate project. By combining the timeless appeal of natural gravel with the proven performance of Gravelrings, the first phase of the driveway has created an elegant arrival experience that complements the architecture, respects its setting and establishes a strong foundation for the future development of the estate.
